Sister, brother and RV’s

In late 2021, we completed our first year of travel on the road and we started to talk about what we might need to change if we were to continue traveling. We both agreed that although our RV was adequate for living in short term it was limited in how it rode. The home part was okay but the chassis part was lacking. We both agreed that a ‘diesel pusher’ was what we wanted. We decided to consign our existing coach and look for a new ride. We hoped this would be straightforward and easy to do because one dealer said we shouldn’t have any problems selling it quickly for top dollar. Ha!

We arrived back in Texas so we could visit friends, dentists, and regroup. We found several dealers who would list our RV and sell us a new one but finding the dealer that was a good fit was more of a trick.

When you live in an RV and try to sell it, it can be a challenge. You can leave a house when a realtor wants to show it to potential buyers but with an RV, you have to move out completely. Nobody wants to buy an RV they essentially can’t drive off the lot the day they buy. Therefore, we had to move out. Where do we go and where do we put our stuff until we needed it again? We didn’t know how long it would be before we could find another one so we scrambled. Fortunately, my sister and brother each allowed us to cohabitate with them for a time until we could get things resolved. Thank you sister and brother!!

We found a dealer in Lewisville, Texas, who would consign our RV so we moved all our stuff into my sister’s garage and on December 6 we left the coach for a ninety-day consignment with National Indoor RV in Lewisville. Our plan was to wait until the consignment was up before looking for a new coach. We had made plans to visit my brother in Mexico in February so that when we returned in March we could finalize plans to find a new RV and take off.

First, we enjoyed a really nice December at my sister’s even though I felt like we were intruding upon her space most of the time. We enjoyed eating, talking about eating, drinking, and playing cards. In early January, a couple seemed interested in our RV but found an issue with one of the slides so we had to visit the dealer to get it resolved. Took care of that and happened to see a used RV on their lot that we liked.. On Jan 17, we chucked our previous plan, took a huge loss on the old coach and traded it for the new one.  Love it when a plan comes together!

We still planned to visit Mexico but wouldn’t take the coach so when we picked it up from the dealer we put it into storage after having it winterized. February in Mexico was good. We enjoyed the warm weather and the wildlife while it froze back in Texas. We ate well and enjoyed the time we spent with family even though I also felt like I was intruding on my brother’s space a lot of the time. Thank you, brother and sister-in-law!

Back in Texas, we found out that the RV didn’t like the freeze that occurred in our absence even with the prior preparation. We had to replace frozen parts before heading out on the road again. We spent some more great days visiting with my sister while we moved our stuff from her garage and settled into the new coach.

In mid-March, we rolled out from my sister’s lake house community and hit the road again with new wheels! Thank you, sister and brother-in-law!

  1. Word about town is that your brother was not in the least “intruded upon” but rather enjoyed the time spent together and that your sister-in-law wants you to visit e-v-e-r-y February. Thank you brother for sharing your thoughts and experiences as you proceed down your path.
